Leaking AC? Here's What You Should Know!

It’s not uncommon for us at Sloderbeck Heating and Cooling to receive a call from a customer asking what to do about their leaking AC. The best way to prevent this from happening is to sign up for our Preventative Maintenance Plan (we refer to this as our “Sloderbeck Service Agreement”), which will be discussed in detail below.

If you notice your AC is leaking, it could be related to a couple of different things:

  • A frozen coil

  • Dirty air filters

  • A cracked or overflowing drain pan

  • A clogged drain line

WHAT TO DO if you notice your AC is leaking:

TURN YOUR AC OFF.

If the coil is frozen, it needs to thaw out! It has to thaw completely before a technician can perform any type of work. By turning off the system, you are also preventing further leaking and damage. After turning off your system, take a look around to see if you notice any issues to report to us. Don’t worry if you can’t figure out the culprit..that’s our job!

Is your drain pan full of water?

If so, do you notice any cracks in your drain pan? If it is cracked or damaged, it is best to replace it completely to prevent any further issues. Give us a call and we will order and replace this for you.

Are vents/registers within your home covered or blocked?

If so, this can cause a frozen coil. Make sure the vents/registers within your home are not obstructed.

Think back...when is the last time you replaced your air filter? Changing your air filter is EXTREMELY important! Many people forget to do this which can lead to issues with your system. Sloderbeck Heating and Cooling offers a wonderful service through Filter Fetch that allows you to sign up for air filter deliveries (this service will be discussed in detail below). Ultimately, you should be changing your air filter every 30-60 days, and even more frequently during the summer months, when your AC is running for extended periods of time. We recommend you set a reminder on your phone or jot down a note on your calendar so you don’t forget this simple, but important task!

Sloderbeck Heating and Cooling: Preventative Maintenance Plan

(We refer to this as our “Sloderbeck Service Agreement”)

We highly recommend that our customers sign up for our Sloderbeck Service Agreement! This ensures that twice a year (once in the spring and again in the fall), we will reach out to you and schedule a check-up for your system. During this check-up, our technicians will ensure that your system is

working efficiently. If there are any issues, they will be brought to the attention of the customer and addressed immediately. By doing preventative maintenance on your system, you are preventing issues that may occur otherwise. Preventative maintenance is essential if you would like your system to remain under warranty.

Sloderbeck Heating and Cooling: Filter Fetch

Filter Fetch is a website where all customers can go to order air filters of any brand and size. This is convenient because it allows you to have your air filters delivered right to your door! You can set up a monthly, quarterly, or annual delivery. Follow the link above (you can also find this link on our website under the resources tab) to get Sloderbeck Heating and Cooling’s special pricing on your filters.

PICTURES FOR REFERENCE:

FROZEN COIL: Here is a picture of what a frozen coil looks like. Remember, the first thing you need to do when you notice your AC is leaking is turn it off. If the culprit is a frozen coil, it has to be completely thawed before a technician can work on the system.

AIR FILTERS: Here is a side by side photo of a DIRTY air filter compared to a clean air filter. We can’t stress the importance of regularly changing your air filter! Your system will thank you!

DRAIN PAN: Here is a picture of a drain pan. If there is water in your drain pan with no signs of damage (cracks), the water can be removed. If you notice that your drain pan has any damage, it is best to replace it to prevent any further damage.

CLOGGED DRAIN LINE: Here is a picture of a clogged drain line. Without proper preventative maintenance, clogged lines can occur. Once again, we can’t stress the importance of signing up for our Sloderbeck Service Agreement (which is our Preventative Maintenance Plan).
