Is My HVAC Unit Ready For Summer?

For those who have recently built a new home, or have an older system that you are unsure will make it through the upcoming summer months, we can assure you that many people have dealt with these same thoughts. Before we recommend a couple of tips and tricks before the summer heat arrives, we highly suggest scheduling a spring maintenance/tune-up of your Air Conditioning system to make sure it functions effectively and efficiently. Doing this will also help keep most of your manufacturing warranties for your system intact.

  1. MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE YOUR FILTER

    1. You would be surprised by how many calls we get from customers, wondering why they don't have airflow or that their system isn't working. Most of the time it is because they haven't changed their filter in months. You should regularly check your filter to make sure that it isn't clogged and is allowing air to cycle through your system. A good tip is to write the date you changed your filter, on the new one so you know how long ago you changed it the next time you go back to inspect your filter. You should inspect your filter at least once a month.

    2. Another great way to remind you to change your filter is to order through Sloderbeck Heating & Cooling on Filter Fetch. They can be delivered right to your door on a monthly, quarterly, and even yearly basis. Please see attached link to ORDER NOW and for more details.

  1. CLEAR OUT THE AREA AROUND YOUR AIR CONDITIONER

    1. Since it had been several months since you've used your Air Conditioner it is a good idea to go out and check the area around your AC. During the winter months, branches, leaves, dirt, and plants can fall into or grow up in your system potentially causing problems. We suggest leaving at least 2 feet of cleared space on all sides of the system to make sure nothing interferes with your system.

  1. INSTALL A PROGRAMMABLE/WI-FI THERMOSTAT

    1. Technology in the HVAC industry is becoming more and more advanced every year. Many customers have turned to a programmable and even a wifi thermostat that they can control from their phone to keep their utility bills down and home comfortable all year long. If you decide to go with a wifi thermostat we suggest going with any of the Ecobee models. They are simple and easy to use on your phone. 1. REDUCE HEAT FROM APPLIANCES

    1. Another common issue that can occur during the summer is overheating our houses. As we go throughout our day we might be using our oven, dishwasher, dryer, and all sort of electronics that put off an excessive amount of heat while it's also blistering hot outside. Sometimes we are using all of these items simultaneously. This makes it extremely hard for your air conditioner to keep up with the conditions on the inside and outside of the home. Try using your dishwasher, dryer, and other electronics later in the evening as the summer day cools down to help keep your house more comfortable.

  1. CLEAN OUT YOUR VENTS

    1. Another common mistake is covering, not opening, or not cleaning out your vents. Make sure you take a stroll around your house to make sure you don't have furniture covering your vents and that they are open to allow air to circulate throughout the house. Many people think that cool air is pumped into their home from their air conditioner when that isn't the case whatsoever. Heating and cooling is all about moving heat. Whether that outside to inside or inside to outside depending on the time of the year. This is why it is important to keep air circulating throughout the house. Turn your fans on and open your vents.

  1. MAYBE IT'S TIME FOR AN UPGRADE?
